Description
Schmincke Horadam Naturals Watercolor – Madder Lake, 15ml Tube
Madder Lake (also known as Alizarin Red) is a strongly translucent, brownish red with very good lightfastness. It is made from the madder root using a historical recipe. Traces of this pigment were found in Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s tomb.
The natural pigments are sometimes slightly coarser in texture, which – unlike gouache – results in a rougher, usually slightly granular surface effect. The colors aren’t stiff but don’t flow as easily as traditional watercolor.
